Training Program: CARPENTER

About the Carpenter Training Program

Three-year study and training Program completed with the Vocational Certificate.

Benefits received during the training period:

• Students in their second and third years of study receive a remuneration for their productive work, which may reach 1 000 crowns per month;
• They will learn to form wooden beams, prisms, chips and slats;
• They will learn to make wooden floors and floorboards;
• They will also make various carpentry products (pergolas, shelters, gazebos, parking spaces and garden houses);
• Carpentry is not a financially demanding profession for those who decide to run an independent business in this field;
• Instructors have an individual approach to their students, according to their needs;
• Students will be able to work with modern carpentry tools;
• They can live in a pleasant and well-furnished youth dormitory;
• They can enjoy WIFI for free;
• Students participate in showrooms, lectures, and seminars offered by construction companies, as well as in thematic exhibitions and field trips;
• They also take part in competitions to prove their knowledge and skills.

Length and type of training:

• After 3 years of study and training, the students will receive their Vocational Certificate and Maturita-Leave Certificate.
• The study takes place in two weekly cycles. The week of theoretical teaching and the week of professional training alternate.
• Professional training takes place at the workshops of the School. Students in the second and third year can work on contracts directly for customers. During such work they gain experience from practical activity, which enables them to master their trade in the future.
• Professional training may take place in the facilities and workshops of the affiliated companies.
• Students can also continue their studies in the Cabinetmaker Program after completing their studies in the Carpenter Program. This additional training then lasts only two years. If successful, such students obtain two Vocational Certificates in five years.

The Content of the Study:

First Year - in the first year, the student will learn how to:

• Recognize different types of trees and wood;
• Cut with a hand-frame saw or cap saw;
• Plane wood;
• Chisel and gouge wood;
• Make dovetail joints;
• Create joints for pin and groove;
• Make connections for pin and nog.

Second Year - in the second year, the student will learn how to:

• Machine solid wooden material;
• Make simple carpentry joints as:
  • Pin and dlab
  • Meeting (lindening)
  • Plating​
  • Overstepping
  • Camping
  • Scheming ​
  • Seating
•  Work with hand tools for carpenters:
  • Submersible saw with guide rail and saw sheath;
  • Electric and motor saw, chain saw with guide rail;
  • Electric plane;
  • Chain chisel and belt sander.

Third year - in the third year, the student will learn how to:

• Make carpentry products, e.g.​:
  • Pergolas
  • Porches
  • Arbors​
  • Wood sheds
  • Garden houses
  • Wooden garages

• Work with classic woodworking machines as:​
  • Belt and circular saw​
  • Panel planer, thickness and bottom milling machine.
